Out of Stormking and Dia Beacon, I really loved Stormking. My favorite pieces were the ones where they changed depending on whether you were close or far away. We started to head towards one piece that we thought was a cube but actually turned out to be...well I don't know how to describe it. It was late metal sheets that overlapped in a rhombus like way to make what looked like a cube far away but really wasn't. There was another work that looked like it was a giant leaning pillar with the top chopped off and hanging in mid air. We all assumed from far away that it was definitely an illusion. No doubt. How could that possibly be working. But low and behold, the piece was actually floating/hanging off the other pillar!
The works that changed as you got closer were so effective in that large space because it gave you a reason to investigate. Many pieces looked exactly the same close up and far away, but what a reward if the work changes and morphs as you put in the effort to walk up to it.
